What To Do With Old Furniture?

Old furniture that may have seen better days had been lying in the garage for quite a few years, piled up to the ceiling. These were not hand-me-downs. They were in actual fact heirlooms. When the old man finally passed away, his daughter inherited the lot. But the years flew by so quickly and there were many interruptions in-between. Ripe with old age, she finally gave up. But the old man at her side, through thick and thin and for better or for worse, also realised the potential that these old sticks had.

In his day, he was quite a deft hand with tools. He could also try his best in the art line. But by now his hands were covered with arthritic symptoms. It would have been impossible anyhow. But with more time on his hands than he could ever have imagined, he was not one to give up so easily. Until one day he stumbled across the furniture assembly pickerington workshop. He was still able to drive, he loved driving.

And so, under the pretence of going to visit the old barber, and steal a couple of smokes in-between, he paid the workshop a visit. The place was so quiet, and yet they were so busy. It took a while before anyone stepped forward to assist the old man, stooped shoulders and all, standing in the doorway of the workshop. It was not as though that they were customer-ignorant. It’s just that they were so engrossed in the work.

They were repainting. They were filing, they were sanding. One senior jobber was doing some upholstery work, and by hand no less. When a young chap stepped forward to assist, the old man simply hired them on the spot.
