DIY Project: How to build a wood pallet compost bin | Proyecto Hazlo tu mismo: Cómo hacer un contenedor para abono

Lately we keep reading about ‘composting’, about the things we can ‘compost’, if it is good to ‘compost’ at home or in the office…

So I decided to share with you an easy project related with (again) composting.

In fact today we are going to build a compost bin.

We will need:

•    4 wooden pallets (5 if you want a bottom for bin)
•    8 large hook and rope
•    Level
•    Shovel
•    Work gloves

Construction details:

First you need to find the perfect place, where you are going to build the compost bin.

Level the ground.

Connect the pallets with a hook and rope in order to make a four-sided bin.

That’s it! Now the bin is ready to use.

You can also use a fifth pallet; it can be the base, allowing air to circulate between the compost. It will also increase the stability of the bin. But you must know that this pallet will decompose faster than the sides.

It was easy right?... now you don’t have any excuse for not composting. If you live in a small place, you can forget about it, because of the awful smell.

Últimamente es habitual oír hablar sobre compostaje (abono): qué materiales se pueden usar, de qué se puede hacer abono, si es recomendable tener un recipiente de compostaje en casa o en la oficina…

Por eso, hemos decidido compartir este proyecto con vosotros.

Hoy vamos a realizar un recipiente de compostaje muy sencillo.

Necesitaremos:

• 4 pallets de madera (5, si deseas poner uno en el fondo como base)
• 8 puntas grandes y un poco de cuerda  
•  Pala
• Guantes de trabajo

Manos a la obra:

Antes que nada elige el lugar donde quieras colocar el recipiente para el abono.

Luego debes nivelar el suelo.

Unir los cuatro palllets con las puntas y los trozos de cuerda. El objetivo es hacer un recipiente de cuatro lados.

¡Eso es todo! Ya tienes un recipiente de compostaje listo para usar.

Si quieres, puedes utilizar un quinto pallet, que hará de base, permitiendo que entre más aire (oxígeno) ayudando a crear el abono más rápidamente y también para dar estabilidad al recipiente.

Pero debes tener en cuenta, que la base se descompondrá antes que las paredes, debido a que es el soporte de todo el abono.

Sencillo ¿verdad? Ahora no tienes excusa para no hacer fertilzantes naturales. Bueno, excepto si vives en un lugar pequeño, ya que el olor puede llegar a ser intolerante.
