Talking about beautiful buildings, here we have new example.

It is going to be the next Korean Cultural Centre in Manhattan, which will be constructed at the end of this year 2010.

SAMOO Architecture PC, the New York studio of SAMOO Architects and Engineers (based in Seoul, Korea), are the winners of an international competition for the design of the Centre, which will be the new home for the Korean Cultural Service in New York.

For the people who live in Manhattan, this building will be located on East 22nd Street in Midtow. The eight-story Korea Centre will house administration offices, exhibit spaces, gardens, artist studios, a library, a café and a theatre for events, lectures and performances.

The winning design merges the modern Korean sensibility of innovation and harmony with tradition.

The street façade is a multi-layered glass screen wall which at the same time, illuminates three figure-sculptures; each figure represents: Heaven, Earth and Humanity, respectively.

Each iconic figure embraces one of the three different zones of the building: soaring public space, semi-public lecture rooms and private administrative offices and artist studio.

It has a dynamic architectural composition which creates a welcoming space for the community. At the street level of the Korean Centre, people can enjoy exhibitions on Korean Culture or “Korean Wave”. This site occupies 594,58 square meters. LEED certification will be pursued in this project.

Este edificio será el Próximo Centro Coreano Cultural en Manhattan, que será construido a finales de este año.

SAMOO Architecture PC, ubicado en Nueva York, forma parte de SAMOO Architects and Engineers cuya oficina central se encuentra en Seúl, Corea. Estos arquitectos son los ganadores del concurso internacional para el diseño del Nuevo Centro, el cual será el hogar del Centro Cultural Coreano en Nueva York.

Para la gente que vive en Manhattan, y que podrá disfrutar del mismo; estará ubicado en la Calle 22 este en Midtow. El Centro tendrá diversos ambientes como son: oficinas administrativas, espacios de exposición, jardines, estudios para artistas, biblioteca, cafetería y un teatro para eventos, conferencias y actuaciones.

Este diseño ganador fusiona la sensibilidad moderna de Corea hacia la innovación y armonía con la tradición.

La fachada que da hacia la calle es un vidrio multi-capas que crea una pantalla-pared. Esta ilumina tres esculturas, representación del Cielo, Tierra y Humanidad, respectivamente.

Estas figuras icónicas protegen tres zonas distintas del edificio: un espacio público suspendido en el aire, una sala semí pública destinada a las conferencias, y un área privada donde se encontrarán las oficinas de administración y los estudios para los artistas.

A la altura de la calle del Centro Coreano, los transeúntes podrán disfrutar de exposiciones sobre cultura coreana u “Ola Coreana”. El proyecto busca obtener la certificación LEED.
